UTM Tracking for TINTs, Embeds, and CTAs

UTM codes are codes that Google Analytics uses to track campaigns and lead sources.

The UTM codes are:

  • utm_source

  • utm_campaign

  • utm_medium

  • utm_content

  • utm_term

Adding UTM codes to embeds

TINT Embeds support UTM codes that are added via data tags within the TINT <div>. For example:

<div class="tintup" data-id="tony" data-baseurl="https://www-l.tintdev.com" data-utm-medium="embed page" style="height:500px;width:950px;"></div>

This would add utm_medium to the iframe, which in turn would be tracked in analytics.

Embeds support passthrough as well:

data-utm-passthrough="true"

If this is set and the enclosing page is loaded with UTM codes, those will be passed down to the embed.

Adding UTM codes to Display URLs

UTMs can be added as a URL parameter to any TINT Display URL, like this:

https://www.tintup.com/tint?utm_source=docs

Adding UTM codes to CTAs

There is a final embed option that allows adding UTM codes to CTAs.

data-append-utm-to-cta="true"

If that is added, then CTA buttons will include the given UTM codes.
